New-Century Plinth

2019

The future will be curved. Corners are limitations of the past. Perfect circles require machines.

This plinth was designed to direct the movement of visitors, encouraging in-the-round viewing without dictating a single front-facing orientation.

Modeled in Rhino, the plinth’s structural integrity relies on a slotted inner ring that will hold the post in place. This ring and top cover were accurately cut using a laser cutter. This process is integral to the concept of the piece, as the mechanical precision of the machine was crucial to achieving the final aesthetic.
