During the production of Cement Vessels, colorful concrete residue often remained. Rather than discarding this waste, the slop was pressed into small spherical forms by hand. The donut hole balls were then sprinkled with pigmented cement dust.
When dried, the concrete spheres resembled digital material previews commonly seen in 3D software: a texture-wrapped orb representing different surfaces such as wood, concrete, or metal.
Due to their small size, a macro lens was required to capture their details. The process was technically challenging, as photogrammetry requires minimal distortion for the software to generate an accurate model. Any significant blur across the image set could result in an unusable 3D output.
